General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI)

The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) is Egypt’s principal governmental body responsible for regulating, facilitating, and developing the investment climate in accordance with international best practices and the country’s sustainable development vision. The Authority works to support and promote both local and foreign investment by positioning Egypt as a promising and competitive investment destination, fostering an enabling business environment driven by innovation and aimed at achieving optimal returns on investments. GAFI’s mandate includes promoting investment opportunities, simplifying procedures, improving investor services, developing free zones and investment zones, and supporting entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized enterprises. It also manages a comprehensive investment information system and maintains Egypt’s investment map, which highlights updated opportunities across various sectors nationwide. As a public economic authority with legal personality, GAFI is entrusted with organizing and encouraging investment in alignment with national economic objectives. The Authority may establish branches inside or outside Egypt to support investment promotion and further attract local and international investors.
